In fact, if you asked me as a former educationalist and trainer just a few years ago I’d not be showing too much enthusiasm because I am still a strong believer in face-to-face learning. Interesting facts about home learning
Let’s start with a few statistical facts. Four youngsters studying at home happened to be among the ten winners of the 2001 National Geography Olympiad. The University of Maryland did a similar study in 1998 with 20,000 school-age participants, and the schoolchildren were less successful than homeschooled children. Isn’t it impressive in itself?
So my interest in psychology led me to read some specialized literature in this field, and I came across psychologist Larry Shyers’ opinion in one of them. He concluded that children who study at home display better behavior than their peers in traditional schools because of their more appropriate behavior patterns. Parents who homeschool their children typically model positive behavior for their children while other caregivers may not be very good at it. I thought it was an interesting finding in favor of home education or online learning for that matter. Because children can feel more protected and guarded against bad influences of their peers or as sadly as it sounds, occasionally adults. So why do the current realities support a different approach?
